Driver shoots at woman after passing on I-75 shoulder, trying to run her off road

23-year-old man facing 2 felony charges

Thomas Robert Trim (Oakland County Sheriff's Office)

GROVELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man fired shots at a woman on I-75 in Oakland County after using the shoulder to pass and trying to run her off the road, police said.

Thomas Robert Trim, 23, of Mt. Morris, is accused of being involved in a road rage dispute at 6:20 p.m. Feb. 22 in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Grange Hall Road in Groveland Township.

Another driver said Trim was being aggressive, including using the shoulder to pass and trying to drive her off the road.

She said Trim pointed a gun at her, so she slowed down and called 911. Trim fired a shot through her open passenger window, went around her car, rolled down the driver’s window and shot at her again, Michigan State Police said.

Trim then sped away, the woman said. She was not injured.

“Here is another case of senseless gun violence because someone couldn’t handle driving down the road,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “While the victim wasn’t physically hurt, she will have to deal with the mental aspects of this shooting.”

Troopers closed the freeway to investigate. They identified Trim as the shooter and took him into custody a short time later.

Trim was arraigned at 52-2 District Court on charges of discharging a weapon from a vehicle and felonious assault.

He is being held at the Oakland County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
