WARREN, Mich. – Two drivers are accused of racing at the time when a car turning into Tim Hortons was struck in Macomb County, leaving a man dead and a woman seriously hurt.
The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. Feb. 25, 2024, on Ryan Road at 10 Mile Road in Warren.
Police said Golam Chowdhury, 22, of Warren, was driving a gray Toyota Camry north on Ryan Road alongside Tayasukh Ayman, 20, of Warren, who was driving a black Honda Accord.
As they approached 10 Mile Road, Chowdhury and Ayman were driving at a high speed and possibly racing, according to witnesses.
Another car tried to turn left into the Tim Hortons parking lot on Ryan Road when it was struck by Ayman, police said. A 53-year-old Warren man who was riding as a passenger in that car was killed, and a 25-year-old Warren woman was seriously injured.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition, officials said.
Macomb County prosecutors charged Chowdhury and Ayman with reckless driving causing death, a 15-year felony, and reckless driving causing serious injury, a five-year felony.
They were both arraigned at 37th District Court and pleaded not guilty. Bond was set at $50,000, cash/surety, and they must wear GPS tethers and give up their passports, if released.
Chowdhury’s next court date is scheduled for March 14.
Ayman remains hospitalized for injuries he suffered during the crash.
