DETROIT – A driver was badly injured Monday after crashing into a Wayne County arrow board truck on I-75.

The crash happened Monday morning, April 22, 2024, in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Schaefer Highway in Detroit.

Police said a 2019 Jeep Compass was driving in the left lane of the freeway and crashed into a Wayne County arrow board truck.

The 48-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, officials said.

The driver of the arrow board truck was not injured.

Police said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

“We want to remind drivers how important it is to drive at a safe speed,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “As construction zones continue to ramp up, it is important to focus on driving. This is not only for your safety, but the safety of road workers.”

The freeway was shut down while officials cleaned up the scene.
