LIVONIA, Mich. – Part of 8 Mile Road in Oakland County is closed this week for infrastructure work that’s been ongoing in the area.
Starting the evening of May 2, 8 Mile Road was closed in both directions under the I-275 overpass at the border of Northville Township, Livonia, Farmington Hills and Novi. The closure was expected to last until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 13.
The following ramps will also be closed during that time frame:
- Southbound I-275 ramp left turn lane to eastbound 8 Mile Road (this closure was already in place).
- Eastbound 8 Mile Road ramp to northbound I-275.
- Westbound 8 Mile Road ramp to southbound I-275.
Crews with the Great Lakes Water Authority, or GLWA, will be installing a water transmission main -- a 54-inch pipe -- across 8 Mile Road as part of ongoing infrastructure construction, officials said. Crews will also restore this section of 8 Mile Road during the closure.
GLWA officials said this installation is the ”last section of the 7.5 miles of transmission main to be installed between 14 Mile and 8 Mile [roads] as a part of this project.”
If you’re traveling in the area, the following detours are in place, according to GLWA:
