DETROIT – I-94 in Detroit was scheduled to be closed this weekend for bridge demolition but the closure has been postponed.

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) contract crews were scheduled to remove the McClellan Avenue overpass above I-94 this weekend, but the demolition will be rescheduled.

MDOT said heavy equipment needed for the demolition is located in an area affected by seasonal weight restrictions. A new date for the demolition has not been set.

The McClellan Avenue overpass was originally built in 1957. It was closed in March 2024 due to poor structural conditions.

The overpass will not be replaced. MDOT said this is because of future upgrades to the I-94/M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) interchange.
