DETROIT – All lanes of Southfield Freeway have reopened between Interstate 96 and Ford Road after weekend construction on a pedestrian bridge near Joy Road.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, crews had to set bridge beams across the freeway near Joy Road to rebuild the Cathedral Street pedestrian bridge which was pulled down in a crash last September.

The closure began at 10 p.m. Friday and was expected to last until 5 a.m. Monday. The southbound lanes were opened Saturday afternoon and the northbound lanes opened Saturday night.
Traffic impact:
Northbound Southfield Freeway drivers will be detoured via westbound Ford Road, northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road), and eastbound I-96 back to northbound M-39.
Southbound Southfield Freeway drivers will be detoured via westbound I-96, southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road), and eastbound M-153 (Ford Road) back to southbound Southfield Freeway.
