Vaccination rates plummet in Michigan amid flu season

Vaccination rates for preventable diseases, including the flu, have consistently declined in Michigan, with the lowest coverage observed in the 24-25 flu season at 19%, down from a peak of 31% in the 2021 season during COVID concerns. The decrease is most pronounced among younger age groups, with significant drops in coverage from 6 months to teens, while those 65 and older have maintained higher rates until a recent decline to the mid-40s. As a result, the state could face a challenging flu season, especially if the vaccine's match to circulating strains is poor, despite fair coverage among the highest-risk older population.
