Northville mourns loss of 12-year-old killed by falling tree

A 12-year-old boy, Declan Carter, tragically died when a 20-foot tall dead tree fell on him during a school trip to the Howell Nature Center. Declan, a sixth grader at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Northville, was airlifted to Mott Children’s Hospital but succumbed to his injuries hours later. The community, including Northville Mayor Brian Turnbull who knew the Carter family well, is in mourning, with flags flying at half-staff and classes canceled at Declan’s school. A vigil was held, and counselors were made available to support grieving students.
