Detroit landlords face new compliance rules by 2025
The City of Detroit is set to enforce a new rental property compliance ordinance, aiming to streamline the inspection process by reducing inspection requirements from over 30 items to 15, and imposing stricter penalties on non-compliant landlords. This initiative responds to concerns about substandard rental conditions and aims to increase the current 10% compliance rate among the city's 82,000 registered rentals. The city is engaging landlords through public presentations and fairs to clarify the new rules, with the ordinance scheduled to take effect in Spring 2025.
