Detroit kicks off Demolition Week with positive changes in west side neighborhood

Detroit's Demolition Week began with the removal of a hazardous property on Alpine Street, bringing relief to residents who viewed it as a safety concern and an eyesore. The demolition aligns with the city's broader goal of completing 8,000 demolitions by summer, reflecting positive changes and development efforts in the area. Residents expressed optimism, noting improvements such as the new Joe Louis walkway, which attracted visitors and enhanced the neighborhood's appeal. The city's Construction and Demolition Department plans additional events, including a Citywide Career & Resources Fair, to further engage the community.
