DETROIT – A line of scattered storms with gusty winds between 40 and 50 mph, frequent lightning and torrential downpours will cross southeast Michigan during the mid to late afternoon period.
Those of you who have been following me on Twitter (@PGLocal4 and @Local4Casters) have seen my tweets showing the gust front out ahead of the storm – that’s where the strongest wind gusts are. It’s important to get inside BEFORE the rain starts, because the gust front travels out ahead of the rain core. You certainly don’t want to be caught outside when the strong gusts suddenly hit. And those of you watching the storms’ progress on our free Local4Casters app can see them coming.

The storms should move out around dinner time, and I think we’ll be okay for the Tiger game at Comerica Park. Skies will clear overnight, with some fog once again possible late at night. Lows in the mid to upper 60s (that’s 19-20° Celsius for our friends across the river in Canada). Light southwest wind will shift to the west this evening.
Mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs in the mid 80s (30° Celsius). Southwest wind at 4 to 8 mph. Thursday’s sunrise is at 6:44 AM, and Thursday’s sunset is at 8:29 PM.
Partly cloudy and muggier Thursday night, with a small chance for a shower. Lows near 70° (20° Celsius).
Mostly sunny to partly cloudy and humid on Friday, with highs in the upper 80s (31° Celsius).
Partly cloudy and muggy Friday night, with lows in the low 70s (21° Celsius).
Saturday should start out partly cloudy, warm and humid and, while scattered storms appear possible by mid-to-late afternoon, I think the most widespread activity will be Saturday night. Depending upon how long the rain and clouds hold off, highs should reach the mid 80s (30° Celsius), and possibly a little warmer. Lows Saturday night will still be in the upper 60s to near 70° (19-20° Celsius).
We’ll still see some showers and thunderstorms Sunday morning until the cold front passes by, and this is a cold front that you’ll notice – there will be big changes behind it in the form of an entirely different air mass than what we’ve had for so long. Sunday afternoon will become partly cloudy, breezy, and much less humid, as highs remain in the upper 70s to near 80° (26-27° Celsius).
Then get ready for some scrumptious late summer weather for the first half of next week, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Highs will be very comfortable Monday through Wednesday…rising from 75° to 81° (25-28° Celsius), with overnight lows from 57° to 61° (14-16° Celsius). And humidity will be low, making these temperatures even more comfortable.
