DETROIT – Our overall weather pattern looks pretty quiet this week, with temperatures pretty close to average…expect for Tuesday. But don’t get too used to it…I see a much colder trend that I’ll discuss later in the article.
Tonight, expect batches of high, thin cirrus clouds, with lows in the upper 30s (3-4 degrees Celsius)…perhaps even rising from there a few degrees toward dawn. South wind at 7 to 12 mph.

The Weekend
We are now heavily into the holiday shopping season, and most of that shopping occurs on the weekends…which makes our weekend weather so critical. Fortunately, Mother Nature will cooperate this weekend, with partly to mostly sunny skies, and highs both days in the mid 40s (7-8 degrees Celsius).
Next Week
The quiescent weather will continue into early next week, with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees (9 degrees Celsius) Monday and Tuesday. A cold front, however, will cross the area late Tuesday with some scattered showers, and this will open the flood gates for what I believe will be an extended period of below average temperatures, with highs generally in the 30s (3-4 degrees Celsius). It’s way too early, of course, to even speculate about a White Christmas (or Chanukah…although I don’t recall Bing Crosby ever singing about a White Chanukah), but a key ingredient, of course, is colder temps. We’ll see!
It’s nice to be back from a spectacular Thanksgiving vacation with out of town family. This year we were in Scottsdale, and the weather was incredible…much better than the weather in Florida last week, where we usually spend the holiday. I got back in time yesterday to get the last of my leaves done, as today was my city’s last yard waste pickup day. It was either go from 87 degrees poolside to 40 degrees with a leaf blower (31 to 4 degrees Celsius), or wait and have to stash those yard waste bags in my garage all winter. I chose the former.
