Metro Detroit weather forecast: Cold, dry weekend

There’s no sign of our weather returning to Fall or normal here in Metro Detroit, at least not any time soon.

Thursday forecast

Today’s clouds filter the sun, plus there’s a cool front sliding through today reinforcing our cool air and keeping highs today in the mid 30s. Don’t expect any wet weather today but there should be icy spots reforming later this evening and overnight on the roads.

Overnight lows will only dip down into the mid 20s which is manageable considering the dangerous cold we experienced earlier in the week.

Friday forecast

Friday will be a little warmer all around, but not by much. Watch out for patchy fog and patchy ice during your morning drive, and then more overcast conditions throughout the day with clouds only breaking up a little here and there. At best, skies become partly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 30s and a few neighborhoods landing near 40°F. There will be another dry cold front sweeping across the Great Lakes Region late Friday which sets us up for a cool Saturday.

Any hunters heading north will experience mainly 20s to low 30s Friday with a spotty snow shower or two -- especially late afternoon and evening in the Upper Peninsula. Other than that, it’s mostly dry through the weekend until midday or later Sunday with a wintry mix and snow up north.

Weekend forecast

It’s going to be cold in Ann Arbor Saturday for MSU vs. UM at noon. Prepare for temps 20s for tailgating and wind chills that may dip into the teens at times, but the sunshine will look nicer than it feels through the afternoon. Temps will be near 30°F for the noon kickoff and then stay in the lower 30s with more Saturday sunshine around Metro Detroit.

Sunday should stay dry as we head back into the mid and upper 30s, but some light snow is possible late in the day or into the evening.

Next week

It looks more likely for some Monday morning flakes turning to a wintry mix which may include some freezing rain or ice. We will keep a close eye on this for you and keep you posted right here and on Local 4 News as we get closer.
