Metro Detroit weather: Humidity to stick around for a while

Still sultry

DETROIT – We are still entrenched in a humid air mass, which means the few extra degrees on the thermometer today sure didn’t help. You’d better get used to this stuff, as it’s going to be around for a while.

The isolated showers that popped up this afternoon will quickly fade away, leaving almost all of us dry early this evening for a nice after-dinner walk. Lows tonight will drop into the mid to upper 60s (19 to 20 degrees Celsius), with calm air not providing any breeze for those trying to sleep with the windows open.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:28 p.m., and Friday’s sunrise is at 6:46 a.m.

Friday looks identical to today, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, and an isolated afternoon shower possible -- especially on the east side (closer to the lake breezes, as well as an upper-level circulation that’s to our east). Humid highs in the mid to upper 80s (30 to 31 degrees Celsius), with a light and variable wind.

Mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).

Weekend Update

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy, hot and humid again on Saturday, with an isolated shower possible in the late afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 80s (30 to 31 degrees Celsius).

A scattered shower cannot be ruled out Saturday night -- let’s hope they stay away from Woodward and the 2021 Dream Cruise! Temps drop into the 70s (25 degrees Celsius) during the evening, and to an overnight low only near 70 degrees (21 degrees Celsius) by dawn Sunday.

Partly cloudy with a scattered shower possible on Sunday as a weakening front crosses the area -- let’s hope they stay away from the Firekeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn! Hot and humid again, with highs in the mid to upper 80s (30 to 31 degrees Celsius).

How Long Will This Stuff Last?

It appears that the heat and humidity will stick around through Wednesday, but today’s computer models are now suggesting a faster timing to the cold front that I discussed yesterday -- bringing it through late Wednesday night. If this timing holds, then we’ll notice the humidity dropping during the day Thursday, which will set us up for some spectacular weather heading into next weekend!
