DETROIT – What a gorgeous day. Everything is playing out perfectly, with abundant sunshine and southwest winds pushing temperatures into the low to mid-70s (21 to 22 degrees Celsius) across the area.
The dry air overhead means that, once again, temperatures will fall quickly Tuesday evening under mostly clear skies (with some pretty high-altitude cirrus clouds drifting by), and eventually to a low in the mid- to upper 40s (6 to 9 degrees Celsius), with southwest winds at 5 to 9 mph.
Wednesday morning’s sunrise is at 7:51 a.m.
This week
Mostly sunny on Wednesday -- another spectacular October day -- with highs once again in the low to mid-70s (21 to 22 degrees Celsius). Southwest winds at 7 to 12 mph.
Increasing clouds Wednesday evening, with a scattered shower possible -- you might deal with one heading back to the car if you are going to the Detroit Pistons’ home opener against the Chicago Bulls at LCA.
Then, a line of showers and possible thunderstorms crosses the area late at night -- probably between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Lows will be mild, in the mid-50s (14 degrees Celsius).
Once the line of late-night/early-morning rain moves out early Thursday morning, we might have a break with even some partial sunshine developing. But we’ll cloud up again, and scattered showers are possible in the afternoon as a typical October cold front crosses the area. Highs should reach the mid-60s (18 degrees Celsius) as long as we get that morning break.
Mostly cloudy and cooler Thursday night, with lows in the low to mid-40s (6 degrees Celsius).
Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy on Friday, with highs regressing back into the mid-50s (12 to 14 degrees Celsius).
Partly cloudy Friday night, with lows in the low to mid-40s (6 degrees Celsius).
Weekend forecast
The weather pattern is still a bit uncertain for the upcoming weekend.
While we won’t have any fronts or storm systems crossing the area, a moderately strong upper level disturbance combined with cold temperatures aloft (which makes the atmosphere more unstable), means that we’ll quickly become mostly cloudy, with a few showers possible. Keep an eye on our app’s real-time radar if you have outdoor plans. Highs in the mid-50s (12 to 14 degrees Celsius).
Sunday looks dry for most of us -- perhaps a couple of showers are possible in the far northern Thumb but, at this point, it doesn’t appear that they’ll come farther south. However, some models suggest a somewhat better rain chance, so my confidence is not yet great about how this pattern will evolve. Regardless of the shower chance, highs continue in the mid-50s (12 to 14 degrees Celsius).
Next week’s temperatures will play out very similarly to how this week’s temps materialized: We’ll see modest warming Monday (upper 50s…15 degrees Celsius), then another nice Tuesday-Wednesday warmup, with highs reaching the mid-60s (19 degrees Celsius), followed by a Thursday cold front that will cool us off again.
