DETROIT – After a snowy Sunday, we now turn our attention to some big midweek weather changes that’ll make you wonder which season it is.
But first, we remain on the cold side of things. Clouds should break up overnight, which will allow temperatures to fall into the upper 20s (-2 degrees Celsius) by dawn. West wind will become southwest at 2 to 5 mph.
Monday evening’s sunset is at 5:11 p.m., and Tuesday morning’s sunrise is at 7:25 a.m.
This week
Mostly sunny skies become partly cloudy during Tuesday afternoon, but highs remain below average, in the mid-40s (7 degrees Celsius). Southeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.
Becoming cloudy Tuesday evening, with scattered rain showers developing toward morning. Technically, our low in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees (4 degrees Celsius) will occur at midnight, as temperatures will then start rising to the point that most of us will be in the upper 40s (9 degrees Celsius) by the time we wake up for work or school Wednesday morning.
Showers first thing Wednesday morning will become much less numerous for the midday period after a warm front passes by (although it will remain cloudy). So, with a bit of luck, perhaps we can get outside for a few hours in the milder, more humid air for that walk or jog. However, showers will increase again by late afternoon as a strong cold front approaches.
Showers are likely Wednesday night, and the cold front should move east of the area by midnight or so, meaning Thursday’s high (around 50 degrees/10 degrees Celsius) will occur at midnight, as temperatures fall to near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius) by Thursday morning, and then only rise a bit Thursday afternoon.
Rain should end first thing Thursday morning, and we should be dry for the rest of the day.
Becoming partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the upper 20s (-2 degrees Celsius).
Mostly sunny on Friday -- a cool, but bright end to the workweek -- with highs in the low to mid-40s (6 degrees Celsius).
Weekend forecast
It appears clouds will increase Saturday, with highs in the mid-40s (7 to 8 degrees Celsius), and we’ll see some showers Sunday, with highs in the mid-40s (8 degrees Celsius). If the Sunday precipitation begins late Saturday night or early Sunday morning when it’s cooler, then it’s possible we could start with a wintry mix. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now in this weekend’s forecast -- stay tuned.
