Metro Detroit weather: Late-day warm up Sunday ahead of spring-like week

Sunday highs to reach near 40s

DETROITGood Sunday afternoon!

Snow showers begin to taper off after 1 p.m. today. Then, we await a warm front and a late-day warm up that will help to melt some of that snow.

The winds will also be on the cranky side today, moving SW at 10-20 mph, gusting to 20-30 mph, at times. That will lead to some blowing snow on the roads around lunchtime, which makes travel tricky going into the early afternoon for most of SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario.

This warm front will be a nice change after a very cold start to the weekend and our Sunday. Highs today will reach near 40 degrees later on under mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions after the snow.

And, don’t forget that we get to enjoy daylight later in the day, which will be very welcome as we anticipate a nice warming this week.

Today’s sunset is at 7:38 p.m.

Feeling like spring

Our weather will be warming up this week, and we have a shot at hitting 50 degrees or warmer on Monday.

We will start the week with lows near 30 degrees early Monday morning, and then we’ll see partly sunny skies and highs around 50 degrees. It will still be a bit breezy, with winds moving SW at 5-15 mph, gusting to 22 mph at times.

We do have a chance for a few rain showers later on Tuesday, as mostly cloudy skies become cloudy and highs halt in the mid-to-upper 40s before the rain chances. Stay tuned, as not all of our computer model data is buying in on the rain late Tuesday. There will be a pretty decent rain chance, and that would surely melt off any snow that remained around here.

Wednesday will be warming again, as highs look to hit the mid-50s, at least, after morning lows in the mid-30s.

Thursday is St. Patrick’s Day, and there’s a good chance that we will hit 60-65 degrees under partly sunny skies. The luck of the Irish appears to be with us!

We do have rain chances again on Friday into early Saturday, and we will keep you posted as we get closer.
