DETROIT – Good Saturday afternoon!
High clouds have taken over after sunshine, creating overcast conditions.
Those clouds signal wet weather on the way, moving in from the Southwest around 4 p.m.-5 p.m. High temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 40s, and a few neighborhoods will hit 50 degrees. The winds will not be a big player in the forecast, blowing SSE at 5-10 mph.
Rain showers will move into our South and West Zones first and continue all evening. That means grilling outside will be risky, unless you don’t mind a little rain. Just keep an eye on the interactive radar on our Local4Casters weather app.
Today’s sunset is at 8 p.m.
Our first 8 p.m. sunset this year!
Evening rain showers will become heavier and more widespread as we head into the overnight hours. There is a chance for a rain and snow mix before sunrise Sunday.
Mostly dry Sunday
We could see some spotty light rain and/or snow Sunday morning, but most of the day will be dry. Morning temps will be in the mid-30s, and afternoon highs will struggle to hit 50 degrees.
Skies will stay mostly cloudy, and the cooler breeze will blow from the Northwest at 5-12 mph.
Rainy, possibly snowy Monday
More spring showers are on tap for Monday starting in the early morning -- bringing that dreaded wintry mix into play, as most of Metro Detroit will see temps fall to the mid-30s. Some of our computer models looking for snow suggest an inch or two of snow, but the ground is likely too warm, and we may see more rain than snow on Monday morning.
Scattered Monday afternoon rain showers are in play, too, as high temps hang in the mid 40s.
Cool, wet week
There is a little bit of “copy and paste” in our forecast through the middle of next week.
We should escape showers Tuesday, but there’s a storm passing just to our south that we will keep an eye on.
There are better chances for rain and maybe snow Wednesday through Friday, with mid-40s to mid-50s for highs, and a shot at 60 degrees on Wednesday.
There is a cold front we will keep an eye on for the end of next week, because we finally have the Detroit Tigers Home Opener on Friday afternoon! Truth be told, the forecast doesn’t look great right now, with computer model data suggesting a Friday morning wintry mix switching to rain showers through the early afternoon, and temps in the upper 30s to mid-40s and a cool breeze. Well, we’ve been there, done that. Hopefully, things will shift in our favor in time.
