DETROIT – Good Thursday afternoon!
Highs will struggle a bit today due to those increasing clouds and shower chances. Look for highs in the upper 40s to low 50s here in Metro Detroit with winds picking up, trying to bring warmer air, moving SW at 7-15 mph, gusting to 20-25 mph at times.
Our rain shower chances will increase after lunch as we head into the mid-afternoon, but those showers will be scattered and will come and go through the early evening.
I wouldn’t cancel any outdoor plans, but I would keep a close eye on our easy to use, interactive radar on the Local4Casters weather app. That way, you’ll see what is coming your way, and which way the showers are heading.
Today’s sunset is at 8:06 p.m.
Opening Day forecast
Friday is a big day here in Detroit, considered by many a city or even state holiday ... unofficially. It’s your Detroit Tigers Home Opener at Comerica Park!
Cooler air will be moving in throughout the early morning, and we cannot rule out a few rain and snow showers through 9 a.m.-10 a.m. -- so watch out if you’re tailgating. Make sure you have your Tigers layers on as morning temps will be in the upper 30s with a decent breeze keeping wind chills in the upper 20s for a bit.
We do have better shower chances through the mid-afternoon, and the ballgame starts around 1 p.m. tomorrow. I would grab the poncho or parka with scattered showers possible throughout the entire game. I wouldn’t expect any major problems with playing the game -- although, some new information this morning hints at an isolated rumble of thunder or two during the afternoon tomorrow. We will keep a very close eye on that as we get closer.
Temperatures will be in the mid and upper 40s during the game, but if these showers evade Comerica Park, we could see highs closer to 50 degrees with winds moving SSW at 5-15 mph.
Wet start but mostly dry weekend
The coldest air with this trouble making weather system will move over us Friday night and Saturday morning, with scattered showers and a decent shot at some snow mixing in early Saturday. Stay tuned!
Most of Saturday looks mostly cloudy but dry, with morning lows in the lower 30s and afternoon highs only in the low-to-mid 40s. Sunday looks bone dry with tons of sunshine and highs into the lower 50s after a chilly start near freezing. We will see a nice warming trend to end the weekend and into next week.
Warmer, but wet, week ahead
We have a good shot at 60 degrees on Monday, but it looks like showers will arrive in the late afternoon or evening, which may keep us just shy of that mark.
We will see warmer temps Tuesday and Wednesday with morning showers fading Tuesday, and afternoon highs in the middle 60s. We have a shot at 70 degrees on Wednesday, but it may come with a little trouble. Scattered rain and thundershowers are likely through the late afternoon and evening.
We will keep you posted as we warm next week.
