Metro Detroit weather: What to expect for Tigers Opening Day

Rain, even thunder possible

Good Friday morning!

Radar early on this Friday shows limited rain but there are showers to our west that we will be watching as they move closer and closer to Metro Detroit. Temperatures are in the middle and upper 30s which means we could see some snow or snow pellets mixing in with light rain chances this morning.

We will not get below freezing and there is no freezing rain concern today but more and more showers start showing up through the morning drive and beyond.

Wind chills are in the upper 20s to mainly low 30s as you head out and about and, grab the umbrella, parka, or poncho with some layers if you’re planning for the Tigers Home Opener later today.

We have been closely watching this forecast all week and there just hasn’t been much in the way of change. It will stay mostly cloudy with rain showers on and off through the afternoon as highs likely fall just shy of 50 degrees.

The winds will pick up late in the day, but most of today winds SW 5-12mph keep wind chills in the mid to upper 30s for tailgating today and even into the first couple of innings. Layers are a great idea because you’d rather take a layer off than wish you had more.

There is a threat for isolated thunder and lightning between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. around Metro Detroit and that would be something that could cause a weather delay at Comerica Park.

Other than that, on and off rain showers but we should still be able to play ball! Go Tigers!!!!

Sunset is at 8:07 p.m.

Showers continue this evening and even overnight as cooler air folds into the mix and that means some snow showers are possible. We could see a little wintry mix in scattered showers after sunset, but there’s a better chance for flakes overnight and closer to sunrise tomorrow. We won’t see anything more than a dusting in spots as showers linger through Saturday morning with temps close to freezing. Snow showers and flurries will linger through tomorrow morning with some drizzle thrown in as well but most of the afternoon looks dry tomorrow with temps in the middle 40s and a steady breeze W 5-15mph keeping it feeling like the 20s if you’re heading to the Saturday Tigers game. Layers are a great idea for anything outdoors tomorrow.

Sunday is easily the better day of the weekend after we get through the chilly morning hours in the lower 30s which means some upper 20s in the burbs. Metro Detroit will get into the sunshine Sunday and highs will head into the lower 50s as we start a nice warm-up heading into next week. There are consequences to our warming with rain chances just about every day next week.

Monday rain showers will come early in the morning and then again in the late afternoon or evening as highs hit 60 degrees or warmer here in SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario. Tuesday may be the driest day of next week and we should see mid to upper 60s under partly sunny skies. More showers Wednesday and Thursday which looks like the wettest stretch of next week as temps flirt with 70 degrees on Hump Day and then we start cooling on Thursday in the upper 50s to low 60s after mainly morning showers.
