Metro Detroit weather: Mild Friday with rain chances before warm weekend

Friday highs in upper 50s

DETROITHappy Friday!

Friday morning sunshine will be replaced with high clouds streaming through midday. Thicker and more numerous clouds will make our skies only partly sunny this afternoon. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, with lighter winds moving E at 5-12 mph.

A cold front came through here yesterday, and that same front returns as a warm front through the late afternoon and evening. That front will be a spark for some scattered showers moving in from the south and west.

We will be dry through the early afternoon with scattered showers possible mainly after 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Friday. There’s a better chance for more numerous rain and thundershowers this evening into the early overnight hours, and lingering into part of your Saturday.

Today’s sunset is at 8:23 p.m.

Sunshine, and some rain chances

Saturday morning rain showers will race out of Metro Detroit by 8 a.m. or 9 a.m., and then we will see a nice and gradual clearing through the late morning, bringing us to a nice sun and cloud mixture all afternoon. The abundant sunshine and increasing winds from the south moving at 7-17 mph will help our highs warm into the middle 70s.

Any plans you have for yard work, baseball or softball games, or a round of golf Saturday, should go off just fine -- although the ground may be a little wet until we hit the afternoon hours.

Sunday morning sunshine will again be the key to our warming to end the weekend. It’s another one of these days where clouds will be filling in and rain and thundershowers will be knocking on our door, moving into Western Michigan in the early afternoon. We have a shot at scattered rain and isolated thundershowers after 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Sunday. Highs will take aim at 80 degrees, and the winds be cranking, moving SW at 10-25 mph.

Rain chances increase Sunday evening, and those showers will linger into Monday morning, making for a slower and slippery commute as we get back to it early next week.

Next week preview

This great weekend warming will not continue next week as cooler air moves in behind the Monday morning’s showers. Highs should be in the mid 60s Monday and then mid to upper 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week before we see those 60s returning later in the week.
