Metro Detroit weather: Rainy morning with temps falling to mid-50s this afternoon

Cold front pushes through later

DETROIT – It was a somewhat dramatic ending to an early taste of Summer here in Metro Detroit this weekend.

Sunday highs flirted with the record books and then a line of storms formed in the heat of the late afternoon and evening. Those strong to severe storms moved on, but the cold front that sparked the stormy end of our weekend will stall out and continue to draw in rain showers through this Monday morning so grab the umbrella as you head out with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s.

This front is eventually going to push through later, so we need to be prepared for continued rain chances across all of SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario even if it is not raining as you hit the road.

Sunrise is at 6:37 a.m.

Temperatures will not move very much at all today under a constant deck of clouds leaking at times but there is no longer any threat of severe storms or even thunder and lightning as we move through this Monday. We may have some 60s early this morning, but it will be slowly cooling into the mid 50s through the mid-afternoon.

The cold front will eventually move east with most of the wet weather, but scattered rain showers will be possible even later in the afternoon. Our overcast skies will barely break but they will begin to gradually drift to partly sunny skies for an hour or two before sunset with a widely scattered shower or two as those breezes relax just enough.

Sunset is at 8:26 p.m.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be a continuation of a cooling trend and a pesky breeze today will keep more clouds coming than we would like. Morning temps will hit the mid and upper 30s and afternoon highs will stay in the mid 40s to low 50s depending on your location.

Most of Metro Detroit should see 50 degrees under partly sunny skies, but our North Zone will be on the cooler side with a few light rain and snow showers streaking from Lake Michigan in these nuisance winds WNW 7-17 gusting 20-25mph at times. We could see a few lighter rain showers at times all across our area with a better chance for some spotty wintry mix Tuesday afternoon and evening north of M 59.

Rest of week

Wednesday will be a chilly start with lows near freezing, and afternoon highs that might not make it out of the 40s. With that being said, there will be tons of sunshine and we do have a decent shot at hitting 50 degrees with breezy winds in the morning relaxing a touch in the afternoon NNW 5-15mph.

We will see more beautiful sunshine on Thursday morning before some high clouds start streaking in ahead of some wet weather over the center of the country as we remain dry with temperatures warming back into the mid 50s. The computer models are very consistent and aligned with dry conditions here in Metro Detroit until maybe Sunday.

So, it’s partly to mostly sunny again Friday with highs flirting with 60F and dry to end the work and school week as we now start tracking weekend rain chances. Right now, these computer models show rain and thundershowers moving in after midnight Saturday, or early Sunday morning as we settle in the lower 60s both weekend days.

We will keep you posted as we get closer to the weekend shower chances, just make sure you, your family, and friends all have the Local4Casters App. It’s all you need to prepare for our active weather here in Pure Michigan and around the World. Plus, It’s free!
