DETROIT – Happy Thursday!
It’s round one at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and the sporting world will be tuned into the big PGA event at the Detroit Golf Club.
We are off to a nice start with some lingering humidity and some cloud cover coming and going after some early morning showers. Conditions are mostly dry, though, with temperatures quickly leaping into the 70s.
Today’s sunrise was at 6:22 a.m.
We had a weak cold front move through early this morning, and there’s another weak disturbance trying to push through Pure Michigan today.
We do not expect much wet weather, but we may see a few sprinkles or very light rain showers from the mid-to-late morning into the early afternoon with most of Metro Detroit staying mostly dry.
We will see some breaks in the clouds this afternoon, as highs head back into the lower 80s, feeling a degree or three warmer because of the humidity -- which won’t decrease until later tonight.
The warming winds will be whipping midday and all afternoon, moving WSW at 7-17 mph, gusting to 20-30 mph at times.
Overall, it will be a wonderful day for the professional golfers in town and spectators alike. Here’s a small tip from your weather caddy: anyone walking the course or working outside today should drink lots of water and wear lots of sunscreen.
Tonight’s sunset is at 8:57 p.m.
Milder, comfier air and sunshine
Some good sleeping weather here in SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario is great news, with clear skies into Friday morning and low humidity, allowing some of our suburbs to cool down into the 50s. There will be a steady breeze from the west bringing some moisture from Lake Michigan in the form of some Friday clouds coming and going. We will stay dry and enjoy some very comfy air. Highs will hit 80F with winds W 7-15 gusting to 20mph from time to time.
Saturday morning lows will once again sink into the 50s which will feel great, and you may want to switch from AC to windows open Thursday night through Saturday. Skies will go from sunny to mostly sunny Saturday with highs in the low to mid 80s as the humidity remains on the lower side. It’s another great day for walking with the PGA pros at the DGC. The winds are light, and the scoring will be low which is always fun to watch.
Sunday is the final round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and it will be a tick warmer with humidity on the rise. Tons of Sunday sunshine with highs in the mid to maybe upper 80s with a lighter breeze SW 5-12mph. Rain chances steer clear of here until Monday of next week. With the heat and humidity on the rise, we have some afternoon shower and storm chances Monday and Tuesday of next week for all of Metro Detroit. Temps should stay in the 85 to 90 degree range for most of next week.
