More comfortable air foreseen in Metro Detroit -- with some rain chances mixed in

Slight chance for stray shower late Wednesday night

DETROITHappy Wednesday!

What a breath of fresh air!

Our Wednesday will be a fine summer day with plenty of sunshine, comfortable humidity and highs reaching the low-to-mid 80s. Wind will be light, and blow from the southwest at 4-8 mph.

It will be mostly clear for most of tonight, then clouds will roll in ahead of an approaching cold front. This front has very little moisture to work with, so there’s only the slight chance for a stray light shower late at night -- but most of us will remain dry.

Lows will be in the mid-60s, with light southwest winds shifting to the northwest after the front passes by.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:41 p.m.

Mild days, pleasant lows

Aside from the small chance for an early morning scattered light shower, any clouds we have to start our Thursday will move out, and the day will become partly cloudy.

Highs will be near 80 degrees with comfortable humidity. One caveat: Some high-resolution computer models try to spit out a couple of showers in the Thumb region due to the colder air coming in off of Lake Huron. Keep an eye on our weather app’s real-time radar just in case, if you are up that way.

Thursday night will be mostly clear, and we all should make it down into the 50s by dawn. What great sleeping weather!

We end the work week Friday with with sunny skies and a very pleasant day. Highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Friday night will be mostly clear with lows once again in the 50s.

Rain chances this weekend

The computer models continue to struggle with the weekend weather pattern. The reason for this is that we will have small, weak upper-level disturbances crossing the state. The models typically have problems initially getting a handle on these weak systems, with timing being the problem this time.

Saturday will start mostly sunny, but more clouds should develop in the afternoon as one of those disturbances approaches. At this point, I’m keeping the daytime hours dry and holding off any scattered showers until Saturday night.

Highs Saturday will be in the low 80s, and lows Saturday night in the mid-60s.

There still appears to be a better chance for scattered showers on Sunday, with highs in the upper 70s.

Again, I have lower-than-usual confidence in how the models are handling the weekend weather. Fortunately, it’s only Wednesday, so I have a couple of days to refine this forecast. I know that weekends are important to you -- they certainly are to me -- and I’ll keep a close eye on all of the computer model data and keep you updated.
