DETROIT – Good Thursday morning and welcome to September!
September is the beginning of Meteorological Fall, because breaking seasons down into three specific months make it easier to keep weather and climate records. The Autumnal Equinox is still three weeks away, which means we are not officially done with summer yet.
It feels every bit like a late summer morning out there with Metro Detroit temps starting in the upper 50s to low 60s. We’re starting our day under mostly clear skies and dry conditions.
Today’s sunrise was at 6:59 a.m.
Our weather will cooperate today as we continue to wait for everyone to get the power back on from Monday’s storms.
The humidity will stay on the lower side, and temperatures will be in the 70s through the lunch hour today. We should again see Thursday high temperatures sneak into the lower or even middle 80s.
We’ll also see a lot of sunshine mixed with a few afternoon clouds during peak heating. The wind will be a warmer one on the lighter side, moving from SE to SW at 5-12 mph.
Tonight’s sunset is at 8:07 p.m.
Mild Friday
There will be a moderate spike in showers pushing into the middle of the country from the Gulf of Mexico over the next several days, but we likely won’t see any wet weather as we head into the holiday weekend.
We do expect an increase in clouds from those showers down south on Friday, as our skies go from mostly sunny to partly cloudy. High temps will land in the middle 80s. It will be a handful of degrees warmer if the sun wins the day tomorrow.
Holiday weekend rain chances
Saturday starts out very warm and a little bit muggy with more sunshine through the morning hours. A cold front to our north will be racing across Pure Michigan through either the late afternoon or evening, bringing a chance for a few showers.
The computer models are not in agreement about the timing of the showers, or whether we’ll see any showers at all. According to the trends of the very latest model runs, shower chances will be most likely into the evening, fizzling as they approach.
Spotty Sunday morning showers are also in the mix right now, and that is it for the holiday weekend rain chances. Skies will go from partly sunny to partly cloudy Sunday afternoon, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
Labor Day is Monday and we will likely see an increase in clouds from those showers down south, but we should stay dry with temps again near 80 degrees. Tuesday looks very similar before we get into more sunshine and warmer 80s in the middle of next week.
