DETROIT – Good Monday morning!
The last of the scattered rain and thunder has quieted down here, but we have a chance for wet weather later today.
Most of Metro Detroit has cooled down into the lower and middle 50s, with those showers winding down leaving some slippery streets behind, so be a little extra careful as you hit the road.
We should get a couple of hours of drier weather, with more wet weather coming and going through the late morning and afternoon.
Today’s sunrise is at 7:25 a.m.
There are a couple of weak disturbances or cool fronts moving around a big area of disturbed weather slowly moving east through the upper Great Lakes. Those fronts will force our scattered showers on and off throughout the rest of today.
High temperatures will reach the lower 60s with cool breezes blowing WSW at 8-18 mph, gusting to 20-30 mph at times today.
There is a Small Craft Advisory on the big lakes on our east side with those gusty winds creating 3-6 foot waves on Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. It’s probably best to leave it to the freighters today.
You can expect more showers as we head through the afternoon commute and this evening.
Tonight’s sunset is at 7:23 p.m.
More rain Tuesday
About the only good news that we have for Tuesday is that it should begin to dry out by the late afternoon or evening. Cool fronts will bring a few more waves of wet weather mainly Tuesday morning and in the early-to-mid afternoon hours.
We will start with morning temps in the mid-to-upper 40s, followed by afternoon highs only in the middle and upper 50s. We’ll have showers, mostly cloudy skies and cool breezes moving WNW at 7-17 mph, gusting to 20-30 mph at times.
We really need the rain badly, as we are ending this month in almost a 2-inch deficit in the official rain bucket. So, I guess we’ll take what we can get these next couple of days.
Gradual warm up
Wednesday will be the beginning of a dry stretch and a very gradual warm up here in Metro Detroit. It all starts after a chilly start to the day in the low-to-mid 40s. We will see our skies go from partly sunny to partly cloudy, and high temperatures will reach the neighborhood of 60 degrees. Winds will move NW to NE at 7-17 mph.
Thursday and Friday will see cool mornings in the low-to-mid 40s and highs in the low-to-mid 60s. We should see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies to end this work and school week. One of our computer models shows highs closer to 70 degrees on Friday, which is the last day of September this year, with a better chance as we turn the corner heading into October this weekend.
Yes, we should see highs in the lower 70s both Saturday and Sunday with a nice mix of sun and clouds and lighter winds for the first couple of days of October.
