DETROIT – Good Wednesday afternoon!
Tuesday’s temperatures certainly exceeded expectations, and we will be well above average again today.
Our mostly sunny skies will become partly cloudy later in the afternoon. Highs will be in the middle or even upper 70s with a nice light breeze moving WSW at 5-10 mph.
We are starting to see some of our foliage changing, making today and tomorrow ideal days to take those fall pictures. It will be a great weekend ahead to enjoy those apple orchards and corn mazes as temperatures tumble. Days like today and tomorrow are warm enough to support large numbers of bees, which can be a pesky problem in certain situations. Just something to watch out for.
Tonight’s sunset is at 7:10 p.m.
Rain chances Thursday
Thursday will be another day of abundant warmth as we start the day closer to 50 degrees and see our afternoon highs head into the upper 60s to low 70s. Gusty winds will move SW at 7-17 mph.
Skies will fill with clouds ahead of a cold front coming, which will bring some very noticeable changes. We have our first rain chance in a while later in the day Thursday, closer to dinner time. A line of rain and isolated thunderstorms will move north to south with a cold front, most likely after 5 p.m.
We are hoping for a couple of waves of showers in the evening and a little closer to midnight, because rain is badly needed here. Most of Metro Detroit is in a mild drought right now, so let us count every raindrop we may get.
Drier, cooler Friday
Friday will bring an end to the rain chances with a few very light showers lingering around until maybe 6 a.m.
The cooler air arrives after that Thursday cold front, and we won’t see much warming going on. Skies won’t get much better than partly sunny, and temps will only move from the middle 40s to the middle 50s. A cooler, gusty wind will move NW at 7-17 mph. You just might need the sweatshirt and jacket for those Friday night high school football games.
Cool, pleasant weekend
This weekend will be a perfect time to hit those cider mills, orchards and haunted houses.
We will awake to temps near freezing on Saturday morning, with highs rebounding into the middle and upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.
Sunday should be a beauty as our highs return to the low and middle 60s with more sunshine.
We need more rain, and the longer-range computer models bring a couple of shower chances in the middle of next week. We will keep an eye on it and keep you posted.
