70s for highs Thursday before rain, snow chances this weekend in Metro Detroit

Nice Thursday before big changes

DETROITGood Thursday morning!

We have had this trend of harmless high clouds streaking across the Michigan skies and that trend continues today.

We have a mix of clear to partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the middle 40s to start today. These clouds are coming from bigger storms to our west, but they will produce no wet weather for us here in Metro Detroit this morning or this afternoon.

Today’s sunrise is at 7:18 a.m.

We have a very good shot at 70 degrees this afternoon, which may be the last time we see that number this year, so get out there and enjoy it! We will see more cloud cover coming and going across SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario this afternoon, creating a nice mix of sun and clouds.

Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. A warming breeze will move SSW at 5-15 mph, gusting to 20 mph from time to time.

Thicker clouds will be building into the eastern third of the country from Hurricane Nicole, which is hitting Florida today. Some of the leading edge clouds will start streaming into parts of Southern Ontario later in the day, bringing a chance for some rain from Nicole on Friday.

Tonight’s sunset is at 5:16 p.m.

Shower chances Friday

Friday should be mostly dry for most of Metro Detroit, although a few light rain showers cannot be ruled out. It’s Veterans Day, and we’d love to keep it dry -- even though we really need some rain around here.

Skies will go from partly sunny to overcast. Temperatures will be mild, settling a couple of degrees above and below 60 degrees as our winds shift from SW to NW at 5-15 mph.

Again, remnants form a tropical system may deliver a few showers into Metro Detroit. There are better rain chances in Southern Ontario and areas farther south and east.

Rain, snow this weekend

The weekend will be a huge swing from the warm and mild to the cold and breezy, and it will happen fast.

The winds will be pesky all weekend, moving NW at 10-20 mph, keeping things feeling very much like early winter around here. A few spotty snowflakes are possible.

We will see very little movement in temperatures Saturday with a cold front blasting through our area. Temps will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. There will be a few light scattered rain and snow showers in the afternoon.

Sunday will be even cooler with morning temps in the middle and upper 20s, and highs struggling to get any warmer than the upper 30s.

None of our weekend rain and snow chances will amount to much, other than symbolizing a much different and cooler climate.

We will have cool morning 20s with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s most of next week. There’s a chance for some rain and snow in the middle of the week. Stay tuned.
