Tracking rain approaching Metro Detroit Tuesday: What to know

Wind advisory in effect Wednesday

4Warn Weather – Good Tuesday morning.

We’re waking up to cuddle conditions with temperatures on either side of 30. Skies start off mostly sunny, but clouds build this afternoon ahead of rain showers tonight.

Temperatures on this Valentine’s Day are still trending above average topping out in the low 50s. Rain likely doesn’t move in until after 10 p.m. Tuesday. Showers will come to an end Wednesday morning.

Tonight’s sunset at 6:04 p.m.

Windy Wednesday

Expect rather mild temperatures overnight through Wednesday with lows holding in the 40s and highs climbing into the 50s to around 60 tomorrow. With this system, winds will get gusty on Wednesday. A wind advisory has been issued for Southeast Michigan for 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Southwest winds 25-30 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph are expected. Another system will bring a period of precipitation from late Wednesday night into Thursday.

Rain returns Thursday

This system will largely move in as rain before a steady transition to a rain/snow mix and then light snow as colder air overspreads the area. With warmer surface temperatures, we aren’t anticipating much accumulation, and any precipitation that lingers into Thursday evening would be light and spotty.

After a sharp cool down from late Thursday into Friday with highs only in the 20s on Friday (and low temperatures on either side of 20 both Thursday and Friday nights), expect temperatures to rebound back into the 40s this coming weekend. We may reach 50 degrees on President’s Day.
