Tornado watch cancelled, but diminished severe risk remains in SE Michigan

Tornado watch cancelled for area

Severe weather risk for Metro Detroit. (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Tornado Watch has been CANCELED for all of Southeast Michigan as of 3:15 p.m.

The severe threat, while it remains, will weaken this afternoon and evening. Because of that, the Storm Prediction Center has lowered the severe weather risk from Enhanced (3/5) to Slight (2/5) for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Through the rest of the afternoon and early evening before the cold front moves through, we still expect the potential for damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH, hail in excess of 1″ in diameter, and a few tornadoes.

The cold front is still a far ways away from Metro Detroit. The front is right around Chicago, so we will keep the chance of thunderstorms into the forecast through the mid evening hours tonight before we finally wind this system down.
