Some rain, storms Friday with more coming this weekend in Metro Detroit

Small chances Friday, greater chances Saturday

4Warn WeatherHappy Friday!

We start the day seasonally before wet weather returns.

We anticipate plenty of sunshine to start the day ahead of increasing clouds this afternoon. If you are a morning runner, you will stay dry. If you are looking to get the kids outside to play today, you will have plenty of time to do that through the morning, and even midday.

Highs will be in the low and mid-80s today.

As an upper low pressure system drifts into the region, we’ll see several rounds of showers and thunderstorms arise today and linger into the weekend.

The first round of showers and storms will arrive in the mid-afternoon and evening. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will begin to bubble up in a cluster/scattered variety -- meaning not everyone will see them.

Southeast Michigan is under a marginal risk of severe weather (level 1 out of 5) on Friday and Saturday, with the primary threats including damaging wind gusts and the potential for large hail.

Localized amounts of a quick inch or more of rainfall are possible in any Friday thunderstorms, although most areas will likely not pick up more than a quarter inch.

Tonight’s sunset is at 9:09 p.m.

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will arrive late tonight, and will last into much of Saturday.

More rain this weekend

If you are trying to figure out the best day to get outside and get yard work done this weekend, Saturday is the worst day to do that. Localized rainfall amounts in excess of 1 inch will be possible Saturday.

Spotty chances stay with us on Sunday, but they are relatively small chances in comparison to Saturday, so the second half of the weekend is the better time to plan outdoor activities.

The unsettled weather will stay with us through Monday, before turning calmer and less humid on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be in the 80s for the next week.

Elsewhere

Nationally, strong to severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flooding are possible from the Northeast down to the Gulf. A significant heatwave intensifies across the southern tier of the country.
