Rain is moving into Michigan, which is the start of impactful weather that will last through Monday.
The low-pressure system, which is moving northeastward, will bring rain to the Great Lakes region overnight and Sunday.
That system will merge with a stronger system that is moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico and the Southeast.
The combined system will lash the Northeast and deliver rain and snow showers and gusty winds to Southeast Michigan on Monday.
Sunday
The rain will be more widespread Sunday morning, and scattered showers will be possible in the afternoon and evening. Highs will reach the mid 40s. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with an isolated shower possible in the evening. The wind will begin to pick up as it shifts from the southwest to the west and west-northwest at 5 to 15 mph.
Gale Watch
The wind will become stronger. A Gale Watch will go into effect on Monday morning and last until Tuesday morning for the U.S. waters of Lake Huron. Gale watches will also be in effect for lakes Michigan and Superior on Monday.
Monday
As the storm system intensifies over the Northeast on Monday, rain and snow showers and gusty winds will impact Southeast Michigan. Gale conditions will be possible on Lake Huron with significant waves of 10 to 15 feet. Onshore in the Thumb, winds will be out of the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph. Winds will be a tad less intense in Metro Detroit and closer to 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Metro Detroit will see a mix of rain and snow showers as temperatures peak in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. The chance of light snow accumulation is greater in the Thumb, where lake-effect snow bands may set up.
Powerful winds will combine with heavy rain to cause inland and coastal flooding on the East Coast. Ground and air travel will be impacted for millions.
Tuesday
As winds weaken Tuesday morning, the day will bring calmer and cooler weather conditions for Metro Detroit. A high-pressure system will promote mostly sunny skies, but temperatures will top out in the lower to mid 30s.
