4Warn Weather – Our Monday morning begins misty, ahead of snow showers that will build in throughout the afternoon.
We’ll hit our warmest temperatures early on, so temperatures will just continue to slide throughout the day as winds pick up.
A cold front will bring scattered to numerous snow showers across Southeast Michigan today. Most accumulation is expected on grassy surfaces during the day. However, a rapid drop in temperatures to below freezing in the evening will allow for better pavement accumulation, especially in the Thumb region.
In fact, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Sanilac County from noon until midnight on Monday. Expect bursts of lake effect snow showers in this area of the Thumb. When paired with high wind, visibility could be rapidly reduced in this area, along with deteriorating road conditions.
Most of the Thumb could see around an inch of accumulation, but in areas closer to the water that will see heavier bursts, we can’t rule out total snow accumulation up to 3 inches.
Let’s talk wind: Breezy conditions will produce wind chills in the 20s this afternoon, dropping into the teens by Tuesday morning. Most wind gusts will be between 30-40 mph between 2 p.m.-10 p.m., but expect isolated winds to gust as high as 45-50 mph.
Tonight’s sunset is at 5:03 p.m.
We’ll stay breezy overnight into Tuesday.
Colder, but more sunshine
Tuesday will be the coldest day of the week with highs only in the low to mid-30s. However, we will also welcome back sunshine tomorrow.
We’ll hold onto that sunshine Wednesday with milder temperatures, closer to 40 degrees.
Then, we’ll continue to gradually warm through the rest of the week.
Christmas Eve, Day forecast
Right now, Christmas Eve looks to be mild.
Highs on Sunday, Dec. 24 will be in the upper 40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Next Monday won’t be a white Christmas, as temperatures are looking to climb close to 50 degrees on Christmas Day. There will also be a chance for scattered rain showers.
Elsewhere ...
Nationally, a strong Nor’easter storm will continue to move into the Northeast Monday, bringing heavy-to-excessive rainfall. Behind this storm, lake-effect snow from the Great Lakes toward the Appalachians will be possible.
