Tracking rain, snow on New Year’s Eve weekend: What to know for Metro Detroit

Rain and snow showers return to the forecast for New Year's Eve on Sunday (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – We’ve been stuck with rain for days and above-average temps due to a low pressure system that’s moving slowly. Friday will be our last day with these showers until we get a brief break on Saturday.

Rain showers remain in the forecast on this Friday. Showers may be more scattered earlier in the day, but will be widespread by about 5 p.m.

Highs will be in the low and mid-40s today.

Tonight’s sunset is at 5:07 p.m.

Rain showers will move out of the region tonight, and we should be dry by midnight.

Drier Saturday

We’ll have some sunshine on Saturday, but the day will remain partly cloudy. We’ll get a brief break from wet weather.

Highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

New Year’s Eve, Day forecast

For New Year’s Eve on Sunday, clouds will increase and will bring chances for rain and snow to end the year. This wintry mix is possible all throughout the day Sunday.

Highs will be in the upper 30s Sunday afternoon.

On Monday, we’ll kick off 2024 with some much-needed sunshine and January-like temperatures. Expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 30s.

Sunshine, then wintry mix next week

Sunshine will continue into next Tuesday. We’ll have mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s.

Highs will stay in the upper 30s as clouds increase next Wednesday.

Clouds will continue to increase late Wednesday night into Thursday. We’ll have a chance for rain and snow showers once again on Thursday.

Highs will be in the mid-30s on Thursday.
