Rain, snow move back into Metro Detroit to end 2023

Drier weather arrives for the new year

Rain and snow showers will move into the region for the end of 2023 (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – It was nice to see some sunshine for the start of the weekend on Saturday, but we did keep some cloud cover around, and as we end 2023 and ring in the New Year, we are looking at some winter weather heading our way that could impact your New Year’s Eve plans.

As we look ahead to the end of the weekend and New Year’s Eve, expect cloudy skies, and we will bring a chance of rain and snow showers back to the forecast. The first half of the day looks dry before this clipper system moves in from the Northwest bringing the chance of the wintry mix through mid-evening, then changing over to snow showers as temperatures drop in the evening. Little to no snow accumulation is expected. High temperatures heading for the upper 30s by Sunday afternoon.

Looking ahead to midnight tonight, we will hold onto a chance of snow showers until around midnight tonight as this clipper system moves off to the East, temperatures holding into the middle 30s as we ring in 2024.

We start 2024 with cloud cover sticking around and a little bit of sunshine and January-like temperatures. Mostly cloudy skies can be expected with high temperatures into the upper 30s, and that even more continues into next Tuesday as well. Mostly sunny skies can be expected with highs remaining into the lower 40s.

Expect the clouds to increase looking ahead into the middle of next week, with another system moving into the region for Wednesday. This will bring another chance of snow showers primarily in the afternoon and evening. Daytime highs into the upper 30s by Wednesday afternoon.

More tranquil weather stick around for the end of the week next week. Partly cloudy skies are expected for Thursday as well as Friday. High temperatures remain in the mid to upper 30s for the end of next week.

Looking ahead to the start of next weekend, the data is divided right now. One forecast output shows a winter storm heading our way that would be completely snow, another one shows a glancing pass with a storm that would primarily keep us dry with an isolated rain/snow shower. For now, I am going to keep the forecast dry and we will continue to fine-tune that as we look ahead into the week. Mostly cloudy skies can be expected for Saturday, high temperatures in the mid-upper 30s.
