Multiple chances for winter weather in Metro Detroit next week

Wintry mixed precipitation will move into region

Wintry mixed precipitation moves into the region for the middle of next week (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a dry end of the week, we are going to bring a dose of wintry weather on the way to the region as we look ahead through most of the weekend.

The clouds have rolled into the region overnight last night into this morning, and we are expecting some scattered snow showers as we work throughout the day. Little or no accumulation is expected, high temperatures heading for the mid 30s by Saturday afternoon.

We will keep a chance of snow showers into the forecast through the overnight hours tonight, overnight lows, dropping below that freezing mark heading for right around 30° by early Sunday morning.

Sunday

Snow showers continue through the end of the weekend on Sunday, the cloudy skies will also stick around. A light snow accumulation is possible, most places under an inch of snow expected. High temperatures heading back into the upper 30s by Sunday afternoon.

Next week

We keep the cloud cover around to start next week on Monday before all eyes are on the potential of a major winter storm. Heading our way looking ahead into the middle of next week.

As of right now, the clouds will stick around Tuesday through Thursday, and we expect winter weather to develop overnight Monday night into early on Tuesday morning, as snow. The track of the low-pressure center that will bring this storm to the region will dictate most things in terms of precipitation type for most of this event.

As of right now, this low-pressure center will work directly over Southeastern Michigan, which will draw in some warmer air, changing the snow over to rain showers as we work through Tuesday afternoon, and into Tuesday evening. it does look like there would be a decent amount of rain possible after the changeover from snow to rain. High temperatures heading out of the 30s, into the lower 40s by Tuesday afternoon.

Then, as colder air works back into the region after that low-pressure center works off to the northeast, the rain will change back over to snow Tuesday night into early on Wednesday, and we will keep the chance of snow into the forecast on Wednesday. High temperature is dropping back into the upper 30s by Wednesday afternoon.

It’s also going to be rather breezy as we work throughout the middle of the week with the system as well, when gusting to at least 35 MPH can be expected, which also adds another part of this winter storm. We are going to be keeping an eye on this as wind advisories may be needed to go along with this system into the middle of next week.

It is too early to talk about snow accumulation totals for this event for Tuesday and Wednesday, the forecast data will need to come into better agreement over the next day or so as the low-pressure center that we will be watching will be making its way on shore of the western United States. Stay tuned for later updates throughout the weekend, and into early on Monday morning.

After the system moves off to the east, we will keep the chance of snow showers into the forecast on Thursday as well. High temperatures heading for the middle 30s on Thursday afternoon. And we will keep the cloud covering into the forecast for the end of the week on Friday with high temperatures holding into the middle 30s.

Either way, it does look like an impactful winter storm will move into the region for the middle of the week, after a quiet and rather mild start to the winter season, we are getting our first major system. Heading our way looking ahead into next week. We will continue to refine this forecast as we work throughout the next couple of days as the data comes into better agreement.
