Tracking tricky winter storm next week in Metro Detroit: What we know

Accumulating snow is looking more and more likely on Tuesday

4Warn Weather – After most of us saw some snow showers through the day on Saturday, the winter weather looks to continue into the end of the weekend on Sunday.

Snow showers continue through the end of the weekend on Sunday, the cloudy skies will also stick around. A light snow accumulation is possible, most places under an inch of snow expected. High temperatures heading back into the upper 30s by Sunday afternoon.

We keep the cloud cover around to start next week on Monday before all eyes are on the potential of a major winter storm heading our way looking ahead into the middle of next week.

Tracking winter storm next week

As of right now, the clouds will stick around Tuesday through Thursday, and we expect winter weather to develop overnight Monday night into early on Tuesday morning, as snow. The track of the low-pressure center that will bring this storm to the region will dictate most things in terms of precipitation type for most of this event.

As of right now, this low-pressure center will work directly over Southeastern Michigan, which will draw in some warmer air, changing the snow over to rain showers as we work through Tuesday afternoon, and into Tuesday evening. it does look like there would be a decent amount of rain possible after the changeover from snow to rain. High temperatures heading out of the 30s, into the lower 40s by Tuesday afternoon.

Then, as colder air works back into the region after that low pressure center works off to the northeast, the rain will change back over to snow Tuesday night into early on Wednesday, and we will keep the chance of rain and snow into the forecast on Wednesday. High temperature is dropping back into the upper 30s by Wednesday afternoon.

It’s also going to be rather breezy as we work throughout the middle of the week with the system as well, when gusting to at least 35 MPH can be expected, which also adds another part of this winter storm. We are going to be keeping an eye on this as wind advisories may be needed to go along with this system into the middle of next week.

There is the potential for at least a few inches of snow to fall overnight Monday night into Tuesday Morning before we changeover from snow to rain, and this would be a heavy, wet snow as we are going to have plenty of moisture to work with as this system moves through the region.

After the system moves off to the east, we will keep the chance of snow showers into the forecast on Thursday as well. High temperatures heading for the middle 30s on Thursday afternoon. And we will keep the cloud covering into the forecast for the end of the week on Friday with high temperatures holding into the middle 30s.

Then, it looks like another winter storm is heading our way for the end of the week and into the start of next weekend as well. We are going to bring snow back into the forecast late on Friday and keep a chance of snow into the forecast to start next weekend as well. High temperatures into the lower 30s, closer to the freezing mark can be expected both days.
