4Warn Weather – After most everyone saw some rain and snow throughout our Tuesday, we are going to keep the active weather into the forecast as we work through the better portion of the next 7 days.
Tonight/Wednesday:
Our low-pressure system that brought us the mix of rain and snow will continue to move off to the Northeast throughout the day. With a strong pressure gradient behind the low, we are expecting gusty winds to move into the region throughout the day. Winds could gust as high as 35 MPH. Also, with some moisture left over, we will bring a chance of snow showers into the forecast, primarily before sunrise and into the morning hours. Most places could see around an inch to 1.5″ of snow before it’s all said and done. Otherwise, we keep the clouds around through the day. Temperatures drop to near the freezing mark tonight, then head for the upper 30s on Wednesday, so we could have some slick spots for the morning commute on Wednesday.
Thursday:
A clipper system will work into the region throughout the day bringing another chance of snow showers into the region. This system will not have nearly enough moisture like the system we are looking at today for, but we could see another light snow accumulation on Thursday. High temperatures will head back into the upper 30s by Thursday afternoon.
Friday/Saturday/Sunday:
Another strong low pressure system will move into the region for the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend. Unlike what we saw on Tuesday, this system does look like there will be enough moisture and enough cold air in place that this system will be completely snow. Now, as the data comes in through the next few days, we might see a little warm air come into the picture and that might bring a brief rain/snow mix into our Southwestern Counties, but we need to see what develops through Thursday, so as of right now, we are forecasting this system to be all snow. With this system moving into the region, we are looking for the following in the forecast:
- Snow will develop late Friday afternoon and into Friday evening
- Snow sticks around the majority of the day on Saturday
- Strong wind gusts in excess of 35-45 MPH are possible once again
- There is the potential for a significant snowfall accumulation across most of Southeastern Michigan.
- Arctic air moves into the region and drops temperatures significantly
- Lake-effect snow showers are expected on Saturday night and Sunday behind this low-pressure system.
- Wind chill values could be below zero Saturday night through the end of the weekend with the gusty winds and cold air.
Next week:
Behind the low-pressure system for the weekend, we are going to see some of the coldest air we have seen since last winter move into the region. High temperatures are forecast to be in the middle teens on Martin Luther King, Jr. day for Monday and then in the lower teens, if not the upper single digits for Tuesday, with overnight lows Sunday night into Monday Morning dropping into the single digits, then Monday night into Tuesday then Tuesday night into next Wednesday into the low end of the single digits to near zero. We will also keep the cloud cover into the forecast with chances for snow showers as well.
