4Warn Weather – Colder weather is moving into the region along with more chances for snow through this week and the weekend.
Our Wednesday will start with cloudy skies and snow showers for the first half of the day. About an inch of snow accumulation is possible for most.
Gusty winds are expected today. Winds will move west at 15-25 mph, gusting as high as 35 mph. Highs will be in the upper 30s.
The day will remain cloudy following the snow.
Tonight’s sunset is at 5:19 p.m.
Temperatures will drop around the freezing below freezing tonight. We’ll have cloudy skies with lows in the upper 20s.
Winds will move southwest at 5-15 mph, gusting up to 20 mph.
Snow will redevelop after midnight and into Thursday morning.
More snow Thursday
A system is expected to move through our region on Thursday, bringing with it some snow, especially during the first half of the day. Snowfall may be light for some, but up to 2 inches of accumulation will be possible in some locations.
Highs will be in the upper 30s.
Thursday night will have mostly cloudy skies and lows in the mid-20s.
Impactful weekend storm
Another strong system will move in Friday, bringing stronger snow showers that will last through the weekend. It’s possible that the air will be cold enough for us to see just snow and no rain. However, computer models show we could see some warm air move in, which would cause a rain/snow mix in our southwestern counties on Friday.
We need to see what develops Thursday to know what to expect for the weekend.
For now, assuming it remains cold enough for us to see just snow, here’s what we’re expecting Friday through Sunday:
- Snow will develop late Friday afternoon and into Friday evening.
- Snow will continue the majority of the day on Saturday.
- Strong wind gusts in excess of 35-45 mph are possible.
- There is the potential for a significant snowfall accumulation across most of SE Michigan.
- Arctic air will move into the region and drop temperatures significantly.
- Lake-effect snow showers are expected on Saturday night and Sunday behind this low-pressure system.
- Wind chill values could be below zero Saturday night through the end of the weekend with the gusty winds and cold air.
A look at next week
Next week, we’ll see some of the coldest air we have seen since last winter.
Overnight lows Sunday into Monday will drop into the single digits. High temperatures are expected in the middle teens on Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Tuesday will see upper single-digit temperatures during the day, and then lows near zero degrees at night.
Chances for snow showers remain in the forecast to start next week, as well.
