Winter storm warning issued for 24 counties in Lower Michigan

Up to a foot of snow possible in parts of Michigan

More than two dozen counties in Lower Michigan will be under a winter storm warning with more than foot of snow possible in some areas.

The winter storm warnings take effect Friday morning and last through Saturday, for most regions.

Winter storm warnings from NWS in Grand Rapids:

  • Mason
  • Lake Osceola
  • Clare
  • Oceana
  • Newaygo
  • Mecosta
  • Isabella
  • Muskegon
  • Montcalm
  • Gratiot
  • Ottawa
  • Kent
  • Ionia
  • Allegan
  • Barry
  • Van Buren
  • Kalamazoo

Expectations in these areas: Heavy snow and high winds expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Travel could become very difficult and perhaps impossible by Friday night. Blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.

Expectations in these areas: Heavy snow and high winds expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Travel could become very difficult. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.

  • Midland
  • Bay
  • Saginaw

Expectations in these areas: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches. Winds gusting in excess of 45 mph. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Gusty winds may bring down snow covered tree branches resulting in scattered power outages. Blowing snow may reduce visibilities to below one mile at times.
