Snow showers, dangerously low wind chills Sunday in Metro Detroit

Wind chill advisories remain in effect for most of region through Monday

Wind chills will go as low as -20° across the region through Sunday and Monday (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – Most of us saw snow showers overnight last night and early this morning, with another light accumulation.

We’re going to continue with the snow showers for the first part of our Sunday with some of the coldest air we’ve seen in a few years, setting in across the region.

For Sunday, our lake effect snow showers will continue through the first part of the day, but I do think we start to wind down the snow activity heading into the afternoon. The cloud covers sticks around with cold temperatures as well.

We hit our high into the teens around midnight, and temperatures will fall into the single digits this morning, before rising into the upper end of the single digits to lower teens this afternoon.

With this arctic air mass funneling the cold air in, Wind Chill Advisories are in effect through mid-Monday for areas along and south of I-94 corridor, this doesn’t include metro Detroit. we add the rest of the region into the Wind Chill Advisory during the mid-evening hours tonight, through mid-Monday.

With temperatures into the single digits, going below zero overnight tonight in combination with the gusty winds, frostbite could set in less than 30 minutes on exposed skin, so make sure you are bundled up with all the winter gear if you do have to head outside over the next few days.

We will keep the cloud cover in the forecast overnight tonight, with the arctic air mass setting in. Overnight lows dropping below zero for most locations, but once you factor in the wind, wind chills will go as low as -20° in most locations overnight tonight through the first part of Monday.

Mostly cloudy skies will stick around for the start of the week on Monday before a week system moves in late Monday and early on Tuesday morning. We will bring back a chance of scattered snow showers late Monday into early Tuesday. Overnight Lowe’s dropping into the single digits and only heading into the low end of the teens by the time we get to Tuesday.

Another chance of snow showers works into the region late Wednesday through Thursday. That’s another clipper system heading our way, so we could see a light accumulation of snow with that system. High temperatures remain in the teens on Wednesday and climb into the 20s on Thursday.

We will also keep a chance of some snow showers under the forecast through the end of the week on Friday, before colder air sets in yet again across the region. High temperatures into the 20s on Friday, will drop into the single digits Friday night and high temperatures only heading into the teens to start next weekend.

If you’re looking for some sunshine, you’re going to have to wait until next weekend. We do have a full dry day in the forecast, with a mixture of sunshine and clouds. But it doesn’t arrive until the start of next weekend.

Wind chill advisory

Lenawee, Monroe, Wayne and Washtenaw Counties until 12 p.m. Monday. All other counties are added in the Wind Chill Advisory from 7 p.m. Sunday to 12 p.m. Monday.

Wind chill values could go as low as -20° over the next 24-36 hours. Frostbite could occur in less than 30 minutes on exposed skin when temperatures and wind chills drop this low.
