4Warn Weather – A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon on Wednesday. Most of Southeast Michigan begins the day with wind chill readings that are -15 to -20 degrees.
Today’s sunrise is at 7:59 a.m.
Morning air temperatures will be in the single digits and rise into the teens this afternoon. Feels-like temperatures will be in the single digits later today -- so even with a little improvement, it will still be brutally cold.
Expect a mix of sun and clouds today. Blustery winds will peak with gusts close to 30 mph.
Tonight’s sunset is at 5:28 p.m.
Accumulating snow possible
From cold to snow: There will be a chance for rounds of snow showers on Thursday and Friday.
Before daybreak on Thursday, we will see snow roll through the area. Data suggests we could see some big flakes and a quick accumulation of 1-3 inches. This will mainly be a morning event, so with temperatures in the teens, expect this to quickly stick -- and create some traffic trouble for the morning commute.
We’ll get a break on Thursday afternoon, and then another upper-level system will bring a second round of snow on Friday. We’ll have another chance for a widespread 1 to 3 inches.
Highs will stay below average, in the 20s, through the weekend.
Melting by next week?
We’ll start a warming trend with highs likely back in the 30s Monday and Tuesday, before the 40s become more likely by the end of next week. With that said, we’ll have to wait another week before we start to see some of this snow pack melt.
