4Warn Weather – We’ve got another snowy start on this Friday.
- A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Friday along and south of I-94 for Washtenaw, Wayne and Monroe counties.
- A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Thumb region, including Sanilac and St. Clair counties, until 4 p.m. Friday.
Snowfall totals will range between 1-2 inches for most of Metro Detroit, with higher amounts possible in the Thumb as lake effect snow bands impact portions of that region. Those farther southeast and farther northeast could see more than 2 inches of accumulation.
Today’s sunrise is at 7:58 a.m.
Snow will continue to fall throughout the day, and will be widespread in the morning. There will be some heavier snow bands in the northernmost parts of our region.
The snow bands will push down and out starting midday, and should taper off by around 5 p.m.
Highs will be in the low 20s.
Tonight’s sunset is at 5:31 p.m.
Lingering snow will taper off this evening. An arctic airmass will filter in, significantly dropping temperatures overnight.
Arctic temps return for weekend
Cold weather continues through the weekend, the coldest of which will be tomorrow morning. Temperatures by Saturday morning will be in the single digits with wind chills around -10 to -15 degrees, near the threshold of a wind chill advisory.
Highs will be in the low 20s both Saturday and Sunday. Both days will be relatively dry.
The feels-like temperatures will include subzero wind chills on Sunday morning, too. Although not quite as frigid as Saturday morning, it will still feel like below zero in the morning, and about 10 degrees below the air temperatures throughout the day.
Warming up next week
We then shift to a warming trend next week, with temperatures close to average on Monday and then above average the rest of the week. Highs will start in the low 30s on Monday and increase throughout the week.
We could see a wintry mix move in Monday night into Tuesday, but with rising temperatures, we anticipate a changeover to all rain by Tuesday. The chance for rain showers could linger into Wednesday and Thursday.
Between the temperatures and the rain, we’ll finally start to see some thawing/melting across the area.
Early indications show our temperatures rising to around 40 degrees midweek next week and through next weekend.
