Flooding continues, dense fog returns in Metro Detroit -- here’s what to expect

Friday highs in lower 40s; Saturday highs in upper 30s

The combination of melting snow and recent rain is leading to flooding in parts of Metro Detroit. Fog, mist and rain showers, and patchy ice are concerns for Friday night. (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – A Flood Warning is in effect for the Clinton River in Macomb County until late tonight. During the afternoon on Friday, the river was at 17 feet. It was expected to fall below flood stage of 16 feet. during the late evening. Parts of Clinton Township and Mt. Clemens are affected by this warning.

A Flood Warning is in effect for the Rouge River in Wayne County, which impacts Detroit and the southern city limit of Southfield, until further notice. The river is expected to crest at 16.6 feet. on Friday evening, which is above the flood stage of 15 feet.

A Flood Warning is in effect for the River Raisin in Monroe County until further notice. The river was at flood stage (9 feet) Friday afternoon and was forecast to crest at 9.2 feet. Areas near the river in Tecumseh, Adrian, Blissfield, Dundee, and Monroe could be impacted.

A Flood Advisory is in effect for southern Sanilac and St. Clair counties until noon on Saturday, Jan. 27 as streams continue to rise.

Do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters. The National Weather Service reminds drivers that most deaths from floods happen in vehicles.

The flood concerns will remain in several communities as runoff and snowmelt continue on Friday. A few scattered showers will be possible across the area during the evening. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with fog and mist.

Friday night

There will be a chance of showers and widespread fog on Friday night. Water on roadways will be more difficult to see at night. Lows will be in the lower 30s around the freezing mark. Some icy spots may develop, especially on overpasses and other bridges. Northerly winds will be around 5 mph.

Saturday

It is expected to be mostly cloudy with dense fog on Saturday morning. Highs will be around 40 degrees. Lows will be in the lower to mid 30s.

Sunday

It will be cloudy with a chance of rain and snow showers on Sunday morning. If the system tracks farther south, most of Southeast Michigan could dodge precipitation. It will be cloudy in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 30s. Temperatures during the evening will be in the lower to mid 30s. Lows will fall to the upper 20s.
