Wet snow, rain in Metro Detroit: What to expect Tuesday

Precipitation may affect morning commute

4Warn Weather – A clipper system is bringing wet snow on this Tuesday, with the bulk of the snow falling in the morning.

We could see the snow mix with some rain before it tapers off this afternoon.

Detroit will likely set the record today for the all-time wettest Januarys (previously 5.02 inches set in 1932).

Temperatures will remain rather steady throughout the day with highs in the mid-30s. Roads could be slushy at first, but should only be wet by this evening.

Tonight’s sunset is at 5:45 p.m.

Mild rest of the week

As temperatures fall to or just below freezing overnight into Wednesday, any residual wet spots might turn into icy patches on untreated surfaces.

High temperatures return close to 40 degrees on Wednesday and the mid-40s by Thursday. It will be a bit breezier on Thursday morning.

Sunshine will return on Friday, so we will have to see if the groundhog sees his shadow. Sunshine is expected to linger into the weekend.
