Southeast Michigan has more sunshine on the way as a high-pressure system over the Great Lakes limits cloud development.
Sunday
Do you have plans to go to the Plymouth Ice Festival, Winter Blast Royal Oak, or the Detroit Pistons game on Sunday? The pleasant weather will continue. Sunday will bring partly cloudy skies to much of Southeast Michigan, but areas over the Thumb could see more cloud cover than sunshine.
Temperatures will push into the lower 40s, which is about 10 degrees higher than normal. Winds will be out of the northeast at 4 to 8 mph. Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 20s.
Monday
While highs are forecast to drop a couple of degrees on Monday, highs around 40 degrees are still above the normal high of 33 degrees. (The normal low is 19 degrees.) We will also see periods of sunshine with partly cloudy skies.
Dry Period after Wettest January on Record
The dry stretch will continue after Detroit’s wettest January in 151 years of record-keeping. Last month, 5.25 inches of precipitation fell, including rain and the liquid-equivalent of snow. Some yards and fields are still saturated.
Tuesday and Wednesday
On Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower and mid 40s; but temperatures will push even higher for the second half of the week.
Through Friday
It is likely that Metro Detroit will reach the 50s on Thursday and Friday. Highs on Friday could flirt with the record of 56 degrees, which was set in 2001. Skies will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with rain chances for Thursday night and Friday with the arrival of a low-pressure system.
