After a cold snap in January, February has snapped back with mild weather.
The stretch of mostly dry weather means that wet fields and yards can dry; but the warmer than normal weather is reducing the little ice that exists on the Great Lakes and may affect the rhythm of plant growth.
This trend is holding across Metro Detroit, but we will see wet weather at the end of the week.
Monday
Monday, it will be a chilly start to the day with temperatures in the upper 20s. Expect some areas of patchy fog through late morning. Skies will be mostly cloudy for much of the day, but there will be a better chance of breaks in the clouds during the afternoon. Highs will be around 40 degrees, which is above the normal high of 33 degrees. Winds will be out of the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph. It will be mostly cloudy during the night with lows in the mid 20s.
Tuesday
We will see the return of sunshine on Tuesday. It will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower 40s. Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 40s on Wednesday, but it will be mostly cloudy.
Through Friday
The dry and warming trend will continue with temperatures pushing even higher for the end of the workweek. Highs will be in the 50s on Thursday and Friday. The record high for Friday’s date, Feb. 9, is 56 degrees. That record was set in 2001. The arrival of a low-pressure system will bring the chance of rain showers late Thursday night and Friday.
Weekend
Next weekend, temperatures will drop back into the lower to mid 40s, which is still some 10 degrees or more above normal. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly cloudy with the chance of an isolated rain shower.
