Flurries possible ahead of warmup: What to know for Metro Detroit

Temps reach 50s next week

4Warn Weather – A colder airmass has settled into the region as of Friday morning. Temperatures start in the 20s but feel like the teens with the wind chill.

Clouds will continue to increase this morning.

Today will be mostly cloudy with highs around freezing, but the feels-like temperatures won’t rise above the 20s.

Tonight’s sunset is at 6:07 p.m.

Lake effect snow showers are likely tonight through Saturday morning with little to no accumulation.

Cold Saturday before warmup

Brace for a bitterly cold start to the weekend. Below average temperatures are on tap Saturday with single-digit wind chills Saturday morning. Highs will only top out in the 20s.

More light lake effect snow showers are possible Saturday night.

By Sunday, we’ll bounce back into the low 40s and stay there with a warming trend next week. In fact, we flirt with 50 degrees on Wednesday. The next rain chance appears to be Wednesday night into Thursday.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, heavy mountainous snow will persist through the weekend. A fast-moving storm will produce accumulating snow in the Northeast and widespread lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. Accumulating snow is also possible from a portion of the Central Plains into the Mid-Atlantic. Heavy rains are possible in south Texas.
