Could false Michigan spring be making a comeback to end February?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their weekly updated weather outlook guidance for the next 8-14 days across the country. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on Feb. 14, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid from Feb. 22-28, 2024.

Michigan temperature outlook for next 8-14 days

  • The NOAA 8-14 day outlook shows 40-60% chance Michigan will see above average temperatures in the time period. Most of the U.S. has a higher chance to see warmer-than-average temps, including all of the Great Lakes region.
  • The average high temperature in Detroit in February is 35 degrees.

Michigan precipitation outlook for next 8-14 days

  • The NOAA 8-14 day outlook shows a 33-40% probability that Lower Michigan will see above average precipitation in the Feb. 22-28 timeframe. The Upper Peninsula has “near normal” probability to see average precipitation.
  • The Pacific Northwest and most of the East Coast are also in the higher probability range for above average precipitation.
