A few flakes, breezy and colder for the start of the weekend in Metro Detroit

Wintry conditions stick around for the start of the weekend

4Warn Weather – After a few snow showers to end last week, we are going to keep some winter like weather into the forecast looking ahead into the weekend before a warming trend moves in looking ahead into next week.

A northwesterly flow will stick around throughout the start of the weekend on Saturday, this will keep a few snowflakes into the forecast from time to time especially north of Metro Detroit, along with breezy winds and colder temperatures. High temperatures only heading for the upper 20s by Saturday afternoon, which is a few degrees below where we should be for this time in mid-February. Expect winds gusting as high as 25 to 30 MPH as we head throughout the day as well.

We keep some cloud cover into the forecast overnight tonight, mostly cloudy skies can be expected with a few snowflakes possible, continued cold and breezy. Overnight lows dropping into the lower 20s in the city, not going to rule out some upper teens outside of metro Detroit. Wind chills will be into the single digits to low end of the teens as you’re waking up on Sunday morning.

For the end of the weekend, high-pressure will start to move toward the region, and that will start to break up the cloud cover a little bit and bring us a filtered sunshine. That northwesterly flow will change to a southwesterly flow and take our temperatures up by at least 10° or better heading into Sunday afternoon. But the breezy winds will remain with gusts as high as 25 to 30 MPH as we work throughout the end of the weekend. High temperatures heading for the upper 30s by Sunday afternoon.

Looking heading to the start of next week, high-pressure will control the forecast for both Monday and Tuesday. A southerly flow will also warm us up both days, high temperatures heading into the lower 40s for Presidents’ Day on Monday, then into the upper 40s by the time we get to Tuesday.

Our next chance of rain rolls into the region by the middle of the week on Wednesday, so expect the clouds to increase overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with scattered rain showers throughout Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening. High temperatures heading for the lower 50s, so well above average by the middle of the week.

We keep the cloud cover the forecast into Thursday as our cold front presses on through the region, high temperatures, heading into the upper 40s by Thursday afternoon, before some sunshine rolls back into the forecast by the end of the week, along with colder temperatures as we head into the upper 30s by the end of the week on Friday.
